Summary:
Under general supervision of the supervisor the Financial Counselor performs various duties collects payments from patients safeguards patients valuables. Reconciles hospital deposits completes cash control reports. Maintains security logs verifies that all cashiers logs are properly completed.

Explains point of service billing to patient/designee when applicable or will follow with the departments Patient Financial Counselor.

Responsibilities:
Reconciles and records cash receipts received by ancillary departments i.e. Cafeteria Pharmacy Emergency Room Human Resources Medical Records Financial Counselors Development Office and Gift Shop.

Prepares verifies and reconciles hospital deposit to Cash Receipts Journal on a daily basis. Makes bank deposit escorted by the Security Department. Forwards cash receipts journals and deposit receipts to cash control daily.

Assists in monitoring the timely recording and posting to cash receipts journal.

Monitors and maintains the petty cash drawer. Replenishes petty cash fund through Accounts Payable by check request. Prepares petty cash voucher report. Orders change from bank.

Completes status transfer report on a daily basis.

Maintains procedures and proper handling in the safekeeping of patient valuables using Valuable Inventory Log. Reports unclaimed valuables to the State of Rhode Island as mandated by law.

Assists in obtaining any information needed by Health Information Services/Patient Access Department. Offers customer services support to patients regarding general information and questions.

Assists in troubleshooting to ancillary departments receiving cash receipts which may include equipment bank communications and/or any other problems relating to cashier functions.

Participates in councils quality improvement teams and other such committees as required.

Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established system policies procedures and objectives.

Performs cashier and other related duties as required.

Other information:BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
High school graduate or equivalent.

Knowledge of banking and cashiering principles and procedures computer operations and routine accounting procedures.

Basic computer knowledge is required.

Ability to navigate PC software typing word processing and completion of spreadsheets and data entry.

EXPERIENCE:
Two years cashiering experience in financial institution with customer service skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for long periods of time at a workstation requiring the continuous use of a computer and telephone in an area not accessible to the public.

May have to do moderate walking depending on location of the assignment.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
