Full-timeThe associate general counsel will report to the general counsel and will act as a senior attorney providing timely and responsive legal services to a diverse range of university constituencies (e.g., the Board of Trustees, Chancellor, president(s) of the campuses, senior management, and a variety of others).

Essential Job Functions
- Provides legal representation on a broad array of legal matters including claims management; litigation; compliance with local, state, federal; and international law; faculty and student matters; and university policies
- Drafts, negotiates, reviews, and revises complex contracts and a wide variety of other documents
- Advises university personnel on legal exposure and risk by conducting legal research and analysis and monitoring current and developing legal matters and trends to anticipate and identify potential issues and assist with developing solutions
- Manages litigation and alternative dispute resolution
- Manages various legal compliance matters, as well as internal and government investigations
- Manages and consults with outside counsel in a cost-effective manner
- Prepares and presents training programs to employees on various areas of law affecting the university
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Earned juris doctorate
- Seven to ten or more years of experience practicing law in a nationally recognized law firm, an in-house legal department, or other related experience
- Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state or the District of Columbia
- Admitted to the Rhode Island Bar or the ability to be admitted within one year of hire
- Proven record of excellence in legal career
- Ability to work carefully, collaboratively, creatively, efficiently, ethically, and independently on a diverse range of complex issues

- Higher education experience
Please note: At this time, the position will be mainly remote; a hybrid and/or mainly remote arrangement may be made permanent, but this may be subject to change if operational needs change. Qualified candidates must live or relocate within a 100 mile radius of the Providence Campus location upon hire.
